Wedding Bouquet Trend: Succulents

This is a trend I'll admit, I had a hard time getting behind. But the more bouquets I've seen, the more I'm starting to like succulents. They're very soft and subtle and range in color from a light sage green to a dark eggplant purple.

These flowers are often found in dry, desert-like climates. You'll notice that they almost have a swollen appearance because they retain water to survive the arid climates they're found in. One of the positives for any bride looking to incorporate them into their bouquet is that they hold up really well in most climates.

They can stand on their own, or you can add bright vibrant colors to the bouquet creating a range of different looks that you can incorporate into almost any wedding. Because succulents last longer than most flowers, you can pull them out of your bouquet after your wedding and plant them. You'll have a lasting reminder of your wedding day!

Real Wedding: Piper & Kelsey

Piper and Kelsey chose the Wedding Island and Yellowstone Ballroom for their May 27th 2011 nuptials. Working with Stem Gallery, they chose beautiful tropical centerpieces that featured Birds of Paradise, Yellow Asteria, crimson hued roses, and creamy orange Ginger.

The wedding had a fireman theme, as Kelsey is a firefighter, so each table had some sort of fireman paraphanelia, that ranged from miniature fire hydrants to fireman hats surrounded by red votive candles. As decorative accents, they found some old fireman ladders and hung pictures from the rungs. We loved the fire hydrant topped cupcake stand they chose to showcase their Le Cupcake cupcakes, how cool is that?!

We had so much fun with this wedding and loved seeing how they chose to decorate the ballroom. Congrats to the happy couple on your first anniversary! Below are some more of the beautiful pictures Willow Noavi photography was kind enough to share with us.

New Items Available to Rent!

Wilderness Ridge now has a wedding arch! Set against the stunning backdrop of our Wedding Island, it's the perfect, romantic addition for any outdoor ceremony. It will be available to rent for just $75..a far less expensive option than going through a rental supply company or buying one. Wilderness Ridge will also take care of the set up for you!

Also wanted to share with you some pictures of the new cake stand, mint plate, utensils, and champagne chiller we just got! They're perfect for any vintage themed wedding or fancy, formal affair. These will all be available to rent as well. The cake stand alone will rent for $25 while the entire package will be available for just $40. It's a less expensive option than renting or buying anywhere else, and since you'll only be using it once, it's perfect for any bride!

Vintage Hairpieces

In keeping with the vintage theme, a bridal trend that's hot right now is  hairpieces in the form of vintage brooches and birdcage veils. This trend is a throwback to the glitz and glam of the roaring '20s and elegance of the '50s. Adorned with crystals and jewels and intricate filigree details, brooches and hair combs add an almost instant bit of glamour to your bridal look. The best part, they can be worn with your hair either up or down, straight or curled.

One of my favorite trends right now is birdcage veils. Originating in the '40s and '50s, they've been making a strong comeback over the past few years.  They exude timeless elegance and can be worn with any updo or with your hair pulled loosely back. Whether your gown is simple and understated, or elaborate, there is a birdcage style to match either.

Fabric Bouquets

Browsing through wedding ideas on Pinterest, I saw something kind of cool I wanted to share. For a bride that maybe doesn't have the largest budget set aside for flowers, or maybe just wants to do something a little different, fabric is a great option if done right. DIY weddings are in right now, and this is a great project to embark on in the months leading up to your wedding. Along with it being budget friendly, another upside is that, like brooch bouquets, you will have your flowers forever. You can spend thousands of dollars on flowers, but they usually only last a couple of days at best. So if you're looking for something a little different, or a fun DIY project, scroll through and check out some of the different bouquets-or check out Pinterest for lots of fun ideas!

Let History Make History

Vintage is in! With brides opting for gowns adorned with lace (think Grace Kelly and that iconic 1950s dress!) and bridal parties in shades of ivory, pale pink, beige and champagne. While we’re certainly seeing this trend play out in what the bridal party is wearing, something else we’re starting to see are “vintage props.” Mason jars, wooden directional signs, and old furniture are all starting to pop up in engagement shoots and receptions. This can be anything from an old suitcase to throw cards in, to an old piece of furniture used as a dessert table. If you’re planning a vintage inspired wedding or engagement shoot, Nostalgia Vintage Event Rentals here in Lincoln is a great place to start. They have tons of vintage pieces available to rent. Check them out on Facebook or visit their website www.nostalgiarentals.com to see some of the items they have.
